Parkview Tavern

Parkview Tavern will be able to stay open another year, possibly two, according to the bar's social media post yesterday

It’s a reprieve from the ill fate the beloved Mid-City watering hole received last year, when neighboring restaurant Blue Oak BBQ quietly purchased the building to expand its operations into the space leased by Parkview’s owners.

Managing partner Kathy Anderson first shared word of its potential closure last fall on a local podcast, “Obligations at the Lounge." Anderson and co-owner Mark Malhiot were in talks to buy the property from their landlord Cliff Wagner, but Wagner instead sold it to Blue Oak's owners, much to their surprise.

The news sparked outrage among longtime patrons and residents of the neighborhood, who protested the beloved bar’s closure.

But now last call isn't happening, at least not this year.

According to a social media post shared Thursday, Parkview will stay in its North Carrollton Avenue spot for at least another year and possibly two. The bar credits the “spirit of compromise on both sides of the table.”

Parkview also addressed the outpouring of support from its customers and neighbors.

“We have been overwhelmed by the love from so many and look forward to seeing all of you again for another Jazz Fest, Saints season, Endymion [parade], and your regular visits with friends,” Parkview posted on Facebook, adding that it will host a celebration on Saturday, April 27.
