Culture Aid NOLA,

a group offering no-barrier grocery distribution in New Orleans, recently passed four years of service and more than 3.6 million pounds of food given out, helping locals stock their pantries while also fighting the stigma around food insecurity. Culture Aid hosts events at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Our Lady Star of the Sea and 9 a.m. Saturdays at Corpus Christi Epiphany churches.

Charity Hospital redevelopment

has stalled because the project now owes at least $5.7 million in unpaid bills to its architect, contractor and other vendors, The Times-Picayune reported. The consortium leading the redevelopment, 1532 Tulane Partners, has had three liens and a lawsuit filed against it.

The U.S. Supreme Court

declined to hear the case of Mckesson v. Doe, leaving in place an appellate court decision that free speech advocates fear could squelch the right to organize public protests in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. In 2016, activist DeRay Mckesson organized a protest in Baton Rouge during which an unknown person threw a rock, injuring a police officer. That officer sued Mckesson as the protest organizer. First Amendment advocates worry this could open the door to organizers being liable for actions beyond their control.
