Hybrids and Other Sorts: Group Exhibition of American Artists

Though less than a year old, the BECA Gallery has already become known for its regional, national and international exhibitions of work by emerging artists. Its latest expo, Hybrids and Other Sorts, continued this new tradition with an invitation to artists around the country to submit work based on the theme 'hybrids" with special emphasis on crossbreeding, either in the biological or cultural sense of the term. Included are works such as an acrylic painting by S. J. Hart (pictured), part of what the gallery calls 'a collection of intriguing and imaginative works by nine of the most innovative emerging artists from across the United States." True to its 'Bridge for Emerging Contemporary Art" name, BECA is becoming a unique new breed in its own right. — D. Eric Bookhardt
