New Orleans' modern jazz club, Snug Harbor (626 Frenchmen St., 949-0696) is a triple threat among entertainment venues in the Crescent City. Located in the Faubourg Marigny, it combines a restaurant, bar and music club.

  Known for its live contemporary jazz, Snug Harbor is home to renowned local musicians every night of the week. Rhythm and blues vocalist Charmaine Neville, jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis and modern jazz band Astral Project perform regularly. In an effort to attract a broader audience, Snug Harbor also has introduced free shows at 3 p.m. and midnight on some weekends.

  Before enjoying a live show, patrons may choose from Snug Harbor's menu of steaks, sandwiches and seafood dishes, including the fish Marigny entree: a fried fillet of fish topped with Gulf shrimp in a Creole cream sauce. A popular appetizer is shrimp remoulade, large Gulf shrimp served in a zesty Creole sauce.

  A wood-and-brick interior bar and cabaret-style music club make Snug Harbor an intimate backdrop for casual dining, live music and sometimes artwork. Previous art shows have featured photographer/artist Christopher Porche West's collection, A Movable Feast: The Essence of New Orleans in Elements of Art & Architecture. An upcoming exhibit will display local photographer Rick Olivier's work, a collection of album covers of New Orleans' musicians that's an homage to the city's music scene.

  Manager Wesley Schmidt says Snug Harbor provides "a genuine experience of what New Orleans has to offer."

  Dinner service begins at 5 p.m. daily and lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Regular showtimes are at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m nightly.
