The National World War II Museum unveils its new expansion with a weekend of events. New attractions include the Solomon Victory Theater, the Stage Door Canteen and The American Sector, a restaurant run by chef John Besh. The Victory Theater will screen Beyond All Boundaries, a high-tech assault on all senses including CGI animation, props and more. Tom Hanks (pictured) narrates its comprehensive history of the war from Pearl Harbor to victory in the Pacific. The Stage Door Canteen will feature a swinging 1940s-style musical show. Saturday's opening festivities include a daytime street festival with music, a rock climbing wall, contests and kids activities. From 6 p.m.-11 p.m., the Victory Stomp block party will feature music by Irma Thomas, Deacon John and Ingrid Lucia. Family Fun Day is free admission. Victory Stomp tickets $20. — Will Coviello

A proud day for New Orleans, the USA and the world!!! Sitting in the bleachers this morning watching WWII veterans as they walked passed us on the red carpet, I coudn't help but feel such gratitude for these men and women - THE GREATEST GENERATION. The National WWII Museum pays these heroes homage like no one else. They are loved, admired and respected, as they should be. My hat's off to all who worked so hard for so long to made Dr. Ambrose's vision such a beautiful reality!!!
