State Rep. Cedric Richmond recently hosted a
fundraiser for South Carolina Democrat Rob Miller, who is
seeking a rematch in 2010 against Republican Congressman Joe "You
Lie!" Wilson. Wilson stunned Republicans and Democrats alike by
shouting during President Barack Obama's address to a joint
session of Congress on Sept. 9. Donations have been pouring into the
campaign coffers of both Miller and Wilson ever since. Miller ran a
respectable but losing effort in 2008 against Wilson. Richmond, who is
making his second run for Louisiana's Second Congressional District
seat in 2010, hosted the local meet-and-greet for Miller, an ex-Marine
veteran of the Iraq War, at Zea's Rotisserie and Grill on Nov. 29.
According to Richmond spokesperson Bambi Hall, the crowd of 60
people included Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff Marlin Gusman,
Clerk of Civil District Court Dale Atkins, State Sen. Ed
Murray (who himself is running for mayor), state Reps. Neil
Abramson and Jared Brossett, both of New Orleans, state Rep.
Regina Barrow of Baton Rouge (who chairs the Louisiana
Legislative Black Caucus), Council District A candidate Virginia Boulet
and local attorneys James Gray, Frank DeSalvo,
Sundiata Haley, Rachel Wisdom and Tracey
Flemings-Davillier (who is running for Juvenile Court judge).
